The holiday's are upon us. Thanksgiving has already come and gone the food was great and now it is time to work off all those extra calories and also to get ready for Christmas. I think Thanksgiving is definitely my favorite holiday. I love everything that it stands for. Never mind the wholesale slaughtering of Native Americans, that part is generally overlooked when it comes to the spirit of Thanksgiving. Christmas on the other hand I'm not a big fan of. As a matter of fact when it comes to the Christmas Holiday I'm actually quite the Ebenezer Scrooge. I grow tired of the advertisements within the first few days, the terrible music that you have to listen to over and over and over every time you leave the house, the overcrowding of the stores, and the bell ringers. Oh man I hate the bell ringers!! I hate the cold, I hate the stress, I hate that holiday time at work is wasted on the coldest darkest part of the year. What a stupid idea. I want all my vacation in the spring and summer when it is nice and there is lots of daylight and I can actually go outside. Anyway I could go on but if you've read this far then you get the idea. Despite my disdain for the Christmas Holiday I do like getting gifts so I've created an amazon wish list which can be found by clicking the link in the menu at the top of this page. I'm a big fan of amazon.com for many reasons. Perhaps I'll go into it on a future blog post. I want to ease some of the stress for the holidays, avoid the crowds, the annoying music, and those damn bell ringers and buy directly from my wishlist on amazon.com

Upgrading to 4.0 was successful, until I broke the site trying to change some of the settings. Way to go me. Thank goodness for the very simple database backup. There are a few appearance features that I'd like to change but other than that 4.0 looks good. Still not thrilled about tikiwiki's documentation or support but other than that I think this is the best CMS for me. Tikiwiki's features line up perfectly with what I want to do on this website. Eventually I'll start to actually use more of the wiki features but I need to get my projects a little further along first.

I know I promised a new video of my robot in action but until I get some new wheels on it I don't want to show anyone how badly my robot moves. In the interest of keeping people interested in my blog though, here is a video of my dog in action.

Here is my robot with its initial configuration. This configuration didn't work and I couldn't find anything for wheels around the house. As I write this my robot is completed, programmed and works the way it is supposed to but I don't want to take video just now since I have two dogs playing really loud in my house right now. I still think this is cool though.

Well my robot is almost done here are some cool pics. Right now I am downloading the software I need to program the robot.

Here are the brains of my robot.
Robot Brains

Here is my robot almost completely put together, although I was not happy with the configuration so as you can see in the next photo I have changed it.
Almost Done

In this last picture my robot is ready for programming! Once it is programmed all that will need to be done is to fix a few of the parts on a little tighter clean up the wires and add some wheels.
Ready for Orders

I got my robot parts! Here is a picture! It doesn't look like much but pretty soon after a little soldering and programming this will be a robot.

I ordered my robot parts today. I am extremely stoked about that! The shipping should take a little over a week and then I'll build my very first robot. I will be sure to blog on here during the building process and get some pictures.

Just upgraded tikiwiki to 3.2, it was a pretty easy. I would discuss this more but seriously it was just too easy.

I now have bobonthenet.com hosted on my very own web server. I had some trouble initially but now it is all set up and if you are reading this then it is actually being sent from my house! This is an exciting development for me and gives me much greater control over my web site and server controls. The next item on the agenda is to actually move the legacy of the life tree web site over to this server which should be a lot easier now that everything else is all set up.

I finally got the auto registration via email working. Tikiwiki has the cleanest, sleekest front end out of any CMS that I've used but so far I am unimpressed with the community support for it. I don't plan on giving up on tikiwiki just yet though, since I think this website looks amazing. I've got the core features working that I need. I will be working on tuning to help speed up the site. This should be fun as I get to play with the PHP, be prepared for frequent outages since I am by no means a PHP expert.
